Market regulator SEBI has taken strict action against Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited and its promoters over the alleged unauthorised pledge of company land documents in Hyderabad. SEBI has barred Zee Entertainment from the securities market for two months and imposed a one-year ban on company Chairman Subhash Chandra and MD-CEO Punit Goenka. A combined penalty of ₹1.48 crore has also been imposed on the three.
SEBI stated that title documents of Zee Entertainment’s Hyderabad property were pledged with Indiabulls Housing Finance as security for loans taken by Essel Group entities. The regulator alleged that the company management failed to disclose the details in financial reports. SEBI said Subhash Chandra misused his position and exposed company assets to risk for personal interests, leading to regulatory action.
