India’s gold imports witnessed a sharp decline in August 2026, falling to $2.3 billion from $5.4 billion recorded in August 2025. This represents a year on year decline of around 57%, with the value of gold imports dropping by nearly $3.1 billion in just one year.
The latest government data highlights a significant change in India’s gold import trend compared with the same month last year. Independent data also recorded a similar year on year decline, reinforcing the picture of a substantial fall in gold imports during August 2026.
