India Project, an intellectual property organisation, has proposed bringing existing government schemes supporting startups and businesses under a single umbrella to help create up to 10 million companies and 5 million jobs over the next five years. Instead of introducing another entrepreneurship scheme, it recommended establishing a National Entrepreneurship Mission to connect existing programmes, institutions, knowledge and markets. The organisation also highlighted India’s position as the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem.
The proposal calls for schemes run by DPIIT, DST, the Anusandhan National Research Foundation, the MSME Ministry and financial institutions to be integrated through a digital platform. It also recommended an ‘Entrepreneurship Passport’ for registered entrepreneurs, district-level ‘Entrepreneurship Opportunity Maps’ and a national ‘Idea Bank’. Other proposals include providing multilingual AI copilots to entrepreneurs, improving market access through GeM and ONDC, and introducing practical entrepreneurship education for students.
