AI Reshaping India’s Healthcare System

Artificial intelligence is playing an increasingly important role in India’s healthcare sector, enabling healthcare professionals to improve efficiency and serve more patients. According to the Philips Future Health Index 2026 report, 71% of healthcare professionals in India said AI has enhanced their ability to treat a larger number of patients, compared with 50% globally. The report highlights that AI is helping reshape India’s healthcare system by enabling better use of existing resources. It also found that 85% of Indian healthcare professionals believe AI can contribute to better patient outcomes.

AI is also helping improve patient safety and access to healthcare. Around 48% of healthcare professionals surveyed in India said AI had helped them identify or prevent a medical error at least three times during the previous three months. On average, AI enables doctors to see about 10 additional patients every week. Philips India Subcontinent Managing Director Bharat Sesha said 80% of healthcare professionals believe AI can help deliver quality healthcare services in rural areas. The report also noted that 68% of respondents believe generative AI has helped them make better use of the time they spend with doctors. The study was based on responses from more than 2,000 healthcare professionals and over 20,000 patients across 10 countries, including 200 healthcare professionals and more than 2,000 patients from India.
