Team India suffered a defeat in its first T20I after winning the short-format title and will look to bounce back in the second T20 against Ireland. Following the loss, former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin questioned the team's handling of all-rounder Washington Sundar. Ashwin noted that despite Sundar being included in the playing XI, he was given only one over to bowl and was not provided with a clearly defined role in the team.
Ashwin said Washington Sundar is not naturally suited to the finisher's role and should instead be utilized as a bowling all-rounder. He suggested that Sundar should be introduced immediately after the powerplay and be allowed to complete his full four-over spell. Comparing him with Axar Patel, Ashwin argued that players can only prove themselves when they are given consistent opportunities and emphasized that Sundar's potential cannot be judged without adequate bowling responsibility.
