National record-holding decathlete Tejaswin Shankar will remain eligible for selection to the upcoming Asian Games despite not participating in the National Inter-State Senior Championships, which begins on Wednesday. The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has granted the star athlete an exemption from the event after he formally requested relief from competing in the championship.
A senior AFI official confirmed that Tejaswin’s request was approved and that his absence from the National Inter-State Senior Championships will not affect his consideration for the continental event. The decision reflects the federation’s confidence in the athlete’s credentials and past performances. Tejaswin, one of India's most accomplished multi-event athletes, continues to be a strong contender for representing the country at the Asian Games.
