Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) is facing heavy criticism after their affiliate team, Sunrisers Leeds, purchased Pakistani mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed in The Hundred auction for approximately ₹2.34 crore. The official SRH account has also been suspended, though the reasons remain unclear. Amidst growing controversy, Sunrisers Leeds head coach Daniel Vettori explained that Abrar Ahmed’s variations make him a rare and valuable bowler, particularly against English batsmen. He emphasized that the team prioritized him based on performance and team needs, not political factors.
Vettori further clarified that many top international spinners are available, but under the current conditions, Abrar remains their first choice. He acknowledged ongoing discussions about selecting Pakistani players but stated there are no restrictions from the management regarding player choices. Despite this explanation, social media has erupted with trolling and criticism directed at SRH.
