Ahead of India's first T20I against Ireland in Belfast, all eyes are on 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi and whether he will make his international debut. Addressing the media, India's batting coach Sitanshu Kotak said Vaibhav is certain to get an opportunity in international cricket, but the team management will not alter a settled playing XI solely to hand him a debut. He emphasized that selecting the strongest possible combination remains the team's top priority. If Vaibhav makes his debut, he will become the youngest cricketer to represent India in international cricket.
Kotak praised Vaibhav's exceptional talent, highlighting his fearless batting in the IPL and other tournaments, including his ability to face world-class bowlers confidently. However, he stressed that selection is based on team requirements and current performances. He added that captain Shreyas Iyer and head coach Gautam Gambhir will take the final call on the playing XI. Kotak also said Vaibhav would not receive any special treatment despite his age and that the team management wants him to enjoy the environment, play without pressure, and feel at home in the Indian dressing room.
