Uncertainty Over Key Bills.. Just Four Days Left for Parliament Session

With only four days left in the Monsoon Session of Parliament, uncertainty surrounds several key legislative proposals. These include implementing 33% reservation for women from the 2029 general elections, delimitation of Lok Sabha constituencies and amendments to the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA). None of these proposals featured in Monday’s Lok Sabha agenda. While some opposition parties have softened their stance on delimitation following consultations with the government, the Congress has made it clear that it will oppose the proposals.

Congress senior leader K.C. Venugopal said the FCRA amendment Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on March 25 but has not yet been taken up for discussion. He said the party would not allow legislation that targets minorities or the Opposition. With little time left in the session, attention is now focused on whether the government will take up the pending key bills. The Congress has also issued a whip directing all its MPs to remain present in Parliament on August 10, 11 and 12.
