Amid the ongoing counting in the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in 190 out of 293 seats. In response, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee issued a strong statement alleging large-scale irregularities. She claimed that the BJP manipulated votes under the guise of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and released a video outlining her concerns.
Mamata urged party agents and candidates not to leave counting centres, alleging that early leads were being projected in BJP’s favour as part of a strategy. She further accused central forces of being misused to suppress All India Trinamool Congress workers and claimed that counting was halted after initial rounds in some constituencies. According to trends, TMC is leading in 97 seats, while Indian National Congress holds a marginal presence. Despite the trends, Mamata expressed confidence that final results would favour her party.
