U.S. President Donald J. Trump has announced a major hike in global tariffs, raising them from 10% to 15% on several countries, including India. In a statement shared on his X (Twitter) account, Trump said the decision was made after a detailed review of what he called a “ridiculous and anti-American” ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court regarding tariffs.
Trump stated that many countries have been “ripping off the U.S. for decades without consequence” and that this step is meant to correct those imbalances. Effective immediately, the global tariff rate will increase to 15%, while the Trump administration will finalize and implement the new tariffs in the coming months.
According to Trump, this move is part of his mission to make America’s economy stronger and to push his agenda of “Making America Great Again - Greater Than Ever Before”. The decision is expected to have a significant impact on trade relations with India and other nations.
