The 'India AI Impact Summit 2026' commenced with great fanfare on Monday at Bharat Mandapam in the national capital. The summit has drawn an impressive gathering of leaders from over 80 countries, along with more than 500 global AI experts, CEOs, and researchers. The primary focus of the deliberations is the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in achieving inclusive growth and sustainable development goals.
Notably, this is the first time a global AI summit of this scale is being hosted in the Global South. The summit will span five days, concluding on February 20. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the AI Impact Expo on the opening day and is scheduled to deliver a major keynote address on February 19. His speech is expected to outline India's vision for inclusive and responsible AI, providing a roadmap for international cooperation. The event is seeing high-level participation, including 20 Heads of State and 60 Ministers and Deputy Ministers.
A major highlight of the summit is the three Global Impact Challenges: 'AI for All', 'AI by Her', and 'Yuva AI'. These challenges received over 4,650 applications from 60 countries, which experts view as a testament to India's growing status as a global hub for responsible AI innovation. Out of these, 70 finalist teams will showcase their inventions on February 16 and 17 at Bharat Mandapam and Sushma Swaraj Bhawan.
Additionally, on February 18, a research symposium titled 'AI and Its Impact' will be held in partnership with IIT Hyderabad. The symposium will be attended by Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and the President of Estonia, Alar Karis. Renowned AI pioneers and research institutions from across the world will participate in this symposium to exchange insights and forge new collaborations.
