On the sacred full moon day of Kartika Pournami, temples across the Telugu states echoed with chants of “Om Namah Shivaya.” Devotees gathered in large numbers to offer prayers, perform special abhishekams, and light thousands of earthen lamps, illuminating every corner of the temples with divine glow. In many regions, devotees lit lamps under gooseberry (Usiri) trees and floated banana-leaf diyas in rivers, seeking blessings for peace and prosperity. Many also performed charity and ritual baths, adding to the spiritual grandeur of the day.
At Srisailam, thousands of devotees thronged the temple for Mallikarjuna Swamy and Bhramaramba Devi’s darshan. From early morning, the queues stretched long as people completed their holy dips in Pathalaganga before offering prayers. The waiting time for darshan reached nearly four hours for general devotees and two hours for special darshan.
In Warangal, ancient temples like Thousand Pillar Temple, Kaleshwaram Mukteeswara, Ramappa, Kuravi Veerabhadra, and Palakurthi Someswara saw massive crowds. The temples glittered with lamps as chants of “Har Har Mahadev” filled the air.
In Nalgonda district, devotees participated in early morning rituals, lighting Kartika Deepams and performing special abhishekams to Lord Shiva. Temples in Medak and Sangareddy districts, including Bonthapalli Veerabhadra Swamy, Bheeranguda Mallikarjuna, Jharasangam Ketaki Sangameswara, and Someswara temples, witnessed heavy turnout.
At Bhadrachalam, pilgrims took holy dips in the Godavari River and offered prayers amid a spiritually charged atmosphere. The sight of thousands of floating lamps along the river created a mesmerizing view, marking the essence of Kartika Pournami — a festival of light, faith, and devotion.
