In a shocking incident, students of Dharakonda Ashram High School in Gudenkothaveedhi mandal were allegedly assaulted by the headmaster for questioning the poor quality of food served at the school. According to the victims, on Thursday afternoon, Class 8 and 9 students approached headmaster Hemachandra and complained that the meals were unhygienic and requested proper implementation of the prescribed menu. Enraged by the complaint, the headmaster reportedly assaulted Vijay Kumar of Chodirayika village, Gummirevula Panchayat, and Prabhudas from Dharakonda Odia Camp.
Following the assault, Vijay Kumar reportedly collapsed after suffering seizures, while Prabhudas experienced severe distress. Both were rushed to the Dharakonda Primary Health Centre, where medical officer Babji administered oxygen and injections. As the students’ condition raised concern, parents demanded advanced medical tests and shifted them to Narsipatnam for further treatment. The incident triggered protests by parents and the School LMC chairman Mani, who alleged that school staff behaved disrespectfully. Locals lodged complaints with the District Collector, ITDA Project Officer, and Tribal Welfare Department officials. Acting on the complaint, Tribal Welfare Deputy Director Parimala ordered ATWO Jayanagalakshmi to conduct an inquiry. Meanwhile, Communist Party of India (Marxist) mandal secretary A. Bujjibabu demanded strict action to prevent such incidents from recurring.
