Hyderabad Police Commissioner Sajjanar has issued a strong warning to internet users about rising cyber frauds linked to search engine results. With people increasingly depending on Google and other search platforms for quick information, cybercriminals are exploiting this habit to trap unsuspecting users. Authorities caution that websites appearing at the top of search results or marked as “Sponsored” are not always genuine, and blindly trusting such links can lead to serious financial and data losses.
Cyber gangs are now using advanced Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques and paid advertisements to promote fake websites that closely resemble official portals, banks, and well-known e-commerce platforms. Users searching for customer care numbers or payment services often land on fraudulent links, where they are asked to enter personal or banking details. Once shared, scammers can instantly access accounts, steal money, and even misuse personal documents for identity theft. Police advise citizens to remain vigilant and immediately report suspected fraud through the National Cyber Crime Helpline 1930.
Check the URL carefully; even a small spelling variation may indicate a fake website.
Type the official website address directly in the browser whenever possible.
Exercise extra caution while clicking links marked “Sponsored” or “Ad” in search results.
If you suspect cyber fraud, immediately call the National Cyber Crime Helpline 1930 or file an online complaint.
