The latest statistics on the youth, considered the future of the nation, are causing serious concern. Reports indicate that a total of 42,566 people went to jail in Telangana in 2025. It is noteworthy that the majority of these are young people aged 18 to 30. Specifically, a large number of them belong to Generation Z, those born after 1997. Statistics reveal that 19,413 young people went to jail in 2025 alone.
Even more alarming is the fact that 40,090 of those incarcerated were first-time offenders, according to officials. Examining the types of crimes, 2,833 drunk driving cases (a 152% increase), 1,784 cybercrime cases (a 135% increase), 4,176 POCSO cases, 7,040 drug (NDPS) cases, and 3,260 murder cases were registered. The rapid increase in drunk driving and cybercrimes, in particular, is a dangerous sign.
Analysts believe this is not just a problem limited to Telangana, but a moral warning reflecting the mindset of youth in modern society. Experts suggest that improved civic responsibility, awareness of laws, and self-control are essential. They emphasize the need for the entire society to work together to guide young people and prevent them from going astray.
