The government of Telangana has decided to continue the scheme for the free distribution of sarees to women this year as well. Introducing a new color and design for the sarees this time, the administration has selected a parrot-green shade. Through SERP, an order worth ₹450 crore has been placed with TESCO for the manufacture of 10 million (one crore) sarees, a move expected to boost employment opportunities for weavers. While blue sarees were distributed in the past, a new design was chosen this time in accordance with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's directive to introduce changes in color every year.
From among the samples prepared by officials, a saree featuring a parrot-green base accented with a red zari design was selected. Having distributed sarees to 8.6 million people last year, the government has decided to conduct the distribution simultaneously across both rural and urban areas this time around. The government plans to engage weavers in the districts of Sircilla, Karimnagar, Jagtial, Peddapalli, Mancherial, Warangal, and Hanamkonda for the manufacturing process, aiming to have the sarees ready by October for distribution on November 19, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi.
