

On the eve of Republic Day, the Government of India announced the Padma Awards for 2026. In the first phase, Padma Shri honours were conferred on 45 distinguished individuals for their exceptional contributions across various fields. These awards recognise unsung heroes and individuals who have made a lasting impact through dedicated service. The complete list of awardees is expected to be released shortly.
The recipients represent diverse fields such as literature, science, social service, traditional arts, agriculture, and allied sectors. Notable awardees include Anke Gowda from Karnataka for literature, CCMB scientist Dr. Kumaraswamy Thangaraj from Hyderabad, Bhagwandas Raikar from Madhya Pradesh, and Dharmiklal Chunilal Pandya from Gujarat. The selection highlights grassroots contributors whose work has significantly influenced society.
From Telangana, Ramareddy Mamidi has been honoured for his outstanding contribution to animal husbandry and the dairy sector. Dr. Kumaraswamy Thangaraj has been internationally recognised for over three decades of research on human evolution and genetic disorders. The Padma Shri selections have been widely welcomed and are being seen as a proud moment for the respective states and the nation.
