The US State Department has recently released details of gifts received by American leaders from Indian officials, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Department of State's Chief of Protocol office stated that it has included gifts received by its officials from foreign governments in 2024 in an official list. This list includes both direct gifts and gifts received during travel.
A sandalwood box, a scarf, a wooden box containing saffron and tea leaves, and a translated copy of 'The Ten Principal Upanishads', which Prime Minister Modi gifted to then-US President Joe Biden during the G20 summit in India in 2023, have been transferred to the US National Archives (NARA). Perishable items such as saffron and tea leaves were removed according to Secret Service regulations. The total value of these gifts was stated to be Rs. 51,640. It was also revealed that a sterling silver train set given to Biden in July 2024, a Kashmiri Pashmina shawl given to Jill Biden, and a Lord Krishna Raas Leela silver box given to Kamala Harris have also been preserved at NARA. Details of gifts given by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval are also included in this list.
