Just a day before its scheduled release, The Kerala Story 2 faced a major legal setback after the Kerala High Court stayed the film’s release. The court heard petitions seeking cancellation of the CBFC certification and suspension of the release, alleging that the promotional material portrayed Kerala inaccurately and contained content capable of triggering religious tensions. During the hearing, Justice Kurian Thomas criticised the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and directed it to re-examine the film, issuing interim orders halting the release until further review is completed.
The film is a sequel to the controversial 2023 release The Kerala Story and is directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh, with production by Vipul Amrutlal Shah. Starring Ulka Gupta, Aditi Bhatia, and Aishwarya Ojha, the movie explores a real-life-inspired narrative about young women who fall into deceptive relationships and later face emotional and physical trauma after discovering the truth. The makers had planned to release the film on February 27, but the release has now been postponed following the High Court’s directive.
