Summer has arrived early in Telangana, with rising temperatures troubling residents since the beginning of March. Normally, intense heat begins in the third week of March, but this year temperatures started climbing from the second week of February. The highest temperature so far this year was recorded at 39°C in Mangapet of Mulugu district. Temperatures of 38.9°C were also recorded in Adilabad, Dharmapuri, and Khammam. Officials said temperatures across the state have been about 2.2°C above normal over the past two days.
The India Meteorological Department has issued warnings for the coming days. Temperatures are expected to cross 40°C in six districts, including Bhadradri Kothagudem district, Khammam district, Nalgonda district, Suryapet district, Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, and Mulugu district, where an orange alert has been issued, while the remaining districts are under a yellow alert. Experts say dry and hot winds from North India and low humidity levels are causing the unusual rise in temperature. People are advised to remain cautious and avoid going outdoors during the afternoon unless necessary.
