A fire incident occurred in the Ernakulam Express near Elamanchili Railway Station in Anakapalli district during the early hours of the night. Around 1:30 am, flames were noticed in the B1 AC coach adjacent to the pantry car.
The alert loco pilot immediately stopped the train at Elamanchili station. However, the fire soon spread to the nearby M2 coach, triggering panic among passengers, many of whom rushed out of the coaches in fear.
Railway staff promptly detached the unaffected coaches from the damaged ones. Fire department personnel reached the spot and worked to bring the flames under control.
The train, which was traveling from Tatanagar to Ernakulam, reached Anakapalli nearly four hours late due to the incident. Preliminary information suggests that a brake failure in the B1 AC coach near Narsingaballi may have led to the fire. Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident.
