The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has initiated measures to make EV charging stations available at all depots in the Greater Zone. Currently, stations are operational at Cantonment, Miyapur, Rani Ganj, Hayathnagar, and HCU depots. Plans are underway to set up EV charging facilities soon at Kukatpally, Dilsukhnagar, Midhani, and Maheshwaram depots. With the government announcing that only electric buses will operate along the ORR in the next two years, TSRTC is moving toward converting the entire Greater Zone into an EV zone. Presently, 370 electric buses are operational, and another 170 buses are expected to hit the roads later this month. TSRTC aims to make EV charging stations functional at 20 depots by December.
The Southern DISCOM has informed TSRTC that multiple switching stations are required across the Greater Zone depots for proper electricity supply. Eight locations have been identified for switching station setups, with three sites already allocated. Southern DISCOM CMD Musharraf Farooqui has instructed senior officials in Medchal, Hyderabad South, Central, and Secunderabad Circles to complete the necessary estimations by the end of this month. Once completed, TSRTC will invite tenders for the EV charging stations. Each depot will have a 33 kV HT power supply and lines from two feeders to ensure uninterrupted electricity for the charging stations. Locations earmarked include Dilsukhnagar, Midhani, Bandlaguda, Mehidipatnam, Ibrahimpatnam, Hayathnagar-2, Falaknuma, Maheshwaram, G. D. Metla, Chengicherla, Kukatpally, Medchal, Uppal, Rani Ganj, and Kushayiguda.
