Employees’ Provident Fund subscribers are set to benefit from a new digital facility starting April, as EPF withdrawals through the UPI payment gateway will be enabled. To support this initiative, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation is developing a brand-new mobile application.
Under the new system, subscribers will be able to withdraw a major portion of their EPF savings, excluding certain restricted components, directly into their bank accounts using UPI. The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Labour and Employment as part of efforts to simplify and modernise EPF services.
The upcoming EPFO app will not only allow UPI-based withdrawals but will also provide access to services such as checking passbook balances. Subscribers can view the exact EPF amount available for transfer before initiating a transaction.
For secure completion of transactions and safe transfer of funds, users will need to authenticate payments using their linked UPI PIN. Currently, EPFO is conducting trials with 100 dummy accounts to identify technical issues and improve service efficiency.
Once testing is completed, the new EPFO mobile app is expected to be officially launched in April this year.
