Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has landed in legal trouble after a case was registered against him for allegedly hurting Hindu sentiments. The complaint relates to his imitation of divine characters from the film Kantara during the International Film Festival held in Goa in 2025. The court has scheduled a hearing in the case for April 8.
Ranveer Singh reportedly mimicked the Panjurli and Guliga divine characters portrayed by Rishab Shetty in Kantara in a humorous manner, which triggered strong objections from the Kannada community. Following the backlash, Ranveer apologized and stated that his intention was only to praise Rishab Shetty’s powerful performance. However, advocate Prashanth Mittal filed a petition in a Bengaluru court in December, accusing the actor of disrespecting divine representations. Acting on the court’s directions, police registered a case under Sections 196, 299, and 302 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
