The Andhra Pradesh government has announced free electricity for handloom and powerloom workers starting April 1, aiming to strengthen their financial stability. Minister Savitha stated that handloom workers will receive up to 200 units of free power, while powerloom workers will get up to 500 units. This initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to support the welfare and growth of the weaving community across the state.
During her visit to the Gandhi Bunakar Mela and National Handloom Exhibition 2026 in Vijayawada, along with TDP NTR district president Gadde Anuradha, the minister highlighted that the exhibition will continue till the end of the month. She emphasized that the government is actively promoting handloom products through such events and providing subsidies to boost the sector. The government has also fulfilled its promise of providing a pension of ₹4,000 to weavers from the age of 50.
Minister Savitha noted that the leadership, including Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and Minister Nara Lokesh, understands the challenges faced by weavers and is committed to their welfare. She added that the government is offering loans, skill development training, and marketing support. In the digital era, platforms like Instagram and WhatsApp are helping weavers promote their products more effectively.
