Hyderabad city is competing with the national capital Delhi in terms of declining air quality. On the first day of the new year, the AQI reached up to 300 in several areas. This is according to the indices recorded by third-party apps and devices. However, it is noteworthy that the indices set up by the CPCB (Central Pollution Control Board) recorded a maximum of only 170 on the first day of the new year. Some retired professors say that there is a lack of accuracy in the measurements indicated by the CPCB. The Pollution Control Board has installed AQI devices in 14 areas of Hyderabad city.
Through these, the PCB reveals the maximum and minimum indices. It states that if the AQI exceeds 100, there is a risk. In December, according to PCB calculations, the maximum AQI in Hyderabad was only 132. It is noteworthy that the AQI recorded in third-party apps was up to 270. Scientists say that such a discrepancy should not exist. Machines that measure air quality according to European standards cost approximately Rs. 30 lakhs each. Researchers say that the devices used by the PCB do not perform at that level.
5 million vehicles on the road daily! :
Hyderabad has approximately 8 million vehicles, and on average, about 5 million of them are on the road every day. The smoke emitted from these vehicles is severely affecting the air quality. In addition to these, building constructions, garbage, sewage, and pungent odors emanating from industries are further deteriorating the air quality.
KPHB records AQI of 302:
On Saturday morning at 8:30 AM, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Hyderabad's Kukatpally Housing Board Colony registered 302. This is equivalent to the AQI in Delhi. However, there are no air quality monitoring stations belonging to the CPCB (Central Pollution Control Board) in this area. It is noteworthy that according to CPCB data on Saturday, the AQI was recorded at a maximum of 142 in the Bollaram industrial area of Hyderabad and a minimum of 73 in Ramachandrapuram.
