Vivek Vaswani Reveals Why ‘Dhurandhar’ Missed the Oscar Cut

Ranveer Singh-starrer ‘Dhurandhar’ received only four votes from the 14-member jury during the selection process for India’s official entry for the 2027 Academy Awards, jury member Vivek Vaswani has revealed. Speaking to NDTV, Vaswani said that while some members liked the film, the jury did not consider it an appropriate Oscar contender. He explained that the film did not represent Indian culture and identity in the manner the jury was looking for while selecting India’s official submission.

The decision has sparked discussion among film audiences, particularly following the film’s reported commercial success. However, Vaswani’s comments indicate that the jury’s selection was based on its criteria for India’s official submission rather than box-office performance alone. The jury considered 33 films and eventually shortlisted ‘Gondhal’, ‘Angh’ and ‘Maine Vaapas Aayunga’ before selecting the Marathi film ‘Gondhal’ as India’s official entry for the 2027 Oscars.
