A major debate has erupted in the film industry after exhibitors demanded a 40% share in ticket revenue. Producers strongly oppose the proposal, stating that such a uniform model is impractical under current industry conditions. They argue that while multiplexes offer better infrastructure and justify revenue sharing, many single-screen theatres lack basic facilities like proper seating, hygiene, and sound systems.
Exhibitors, however, insist that they will upgrade theatres only if a percentage-based sharing system is introduced. Producers counter this by questioning why revenue from canteen sales, advertisements, and parking is not shared. The issue has sparked a wider discussion on whether theatres should first modernize or demand higher revenue shares, with many calling for a flexible, performance-based model instead of a flat 40% system.
