Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, one of the most ambitious projects in Indian cinema, is once again making headlines. According to reports circulating on social media and within film industry circles, producer Karan Johar has reportedly acquired the Indian theatrical distribution rights for the film for ₹350 crore. It is being reported that producer Namit Malhotra screened nearly 30 minutes of the film's footage for Karan Johar before the deal was finalized. Industry buzz suggests that negotiations initially began at ₹500 crore before the agreement was reportedly closed at ₹350 crore. However, there has been no official confirmation regarding the deal.
Made on a massive reported budget of around ₹4,000 crore, Ramayana is being developed as a two-part cinematic epic. The first installment is scheduled for a Diwali release this year, while the second part is expected to hit theatres during Diwali 2027. Backed by grand visuals, cutting-edge visual effects, and a star-studded cast, the film has already generated tremendous anticipation. Trade analysts believe the project has the potential to redefine the scale of Indian cinema and set new benchmarks at the global box office.
