Malayalam actor Dulquer Salmaan has now earned pan-India recognition with meaningful films across languages. After hits like Mahanati, Sita Ramam and Lucky Baskhar, he is back with his next bilingual film, “Kaantha”, made in Tamil and Telugu.
The teaser and trailer have already created strong positive buzz, reminding audiences of Mani Ratnam’s Iruvar. Interestingly, insiders reveal that “Kaantha” is also a biopic, just like Mahanati.
Director Selvamani Selvaraj is said to have based this story on the life of M. K. Thyagarajan (MKT) — a legendary Tamil actor who rose from poverty to superstardom in the 1940s. His film Haridas ran for over 100 weeks, and he became known for his luxurious lifestyle — driving a Mercedes Benz and dining on golden plates.
However, his life took a tragic turn when he was accused in a murder case in 1944. Although he was later acquitted, his reputation never recovered. He lost his wealth, health, and passed away in 1959 at the age of 49.
If reports are true that Dulquer plays MKT in “Kaantha”, this film could mark another powerful milestone in his acting career.
