Wildlife Census to Begin in Nallamala Forest from January 20!

The Forest Department is set to conduct a comprehensive wildlife census in the Nallamala Forest, the largest tiger reserve in South India, located in Nagar Kurnool district. The week-long enumeration will commence on January 20 and will include a detailed count of tigers along with other wildlife species found in the forest region.

As part of the exercise, the Forest Department will involve environmentalists and wildlife enthusiasts to ensure accurate data collection. Around 160 forest personnel, nearly 800 wildlife volunteers, and an additional 100 participants will take part in the operation. Survey teams will trek 7 to 10 kilometres daily through forest terrain, documenting animal presence by studying pugmarks, scat, and other natural indicators to estimate wildlife populations.
