US President Donald Trump has renewed his push to change birthright citizenship rules, announcing new executive orders aimed at restricting automatic citizenship for children born in the country to parents from nations considered hostile to the United States. The move seeks to alter the long-standing interpretation under which children born on American soil generally receive citizenship automatically.
The latest orders come only weeks after the US Supreme Court issued a 6-3 ruling related to birth tourism, adding fresh momentum to the administration’s efforts on citizenship policy. The move is expected to trigger further legal and political debate over the scope of birthright citizenship and the constitutional protections surrounding it.
