US President Donald Trump has secured a major victory on immigration policy after the Supreme Court allowed his administration to proceed with ending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for migrants from Haiti and Syria. This decision paves the way for potential deportations of hundreds of thousands of people.
The ruling could impact around 350,000 Haitian nationals and 6,100 Syrian nationals currently living and working legally in the United States under TPS protection. Their future now faces uncertainty as the legal safeguard is set to be withdrawn.
The Trump administration welcomed the verdict, calling it a “win for the rule of law,” while human rights groups strongly criticized the decision. The majority judgment stated that such policy decisions fall under the executive branch, though dissenting judges warned of humanitarian risks.
