Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president MK Stalin has criticised the government led by Chief Minister Vijay following the arrest of a TVK functionary in a drug trafficking case and the escape of inmates from a jail in Theni district. Taking to X, Stalin drew a comparison with popular crime web series, saying that “Prison Break” had followed “Breaking Bad” in Tamil Nadu. His remarks came amid a debate over law and order in the state.
Stalin alleged that the government was failing to ensure proper supervision of criminals and prison security. Referring to an earlier incident in which two inmates reportedly escaped from Puzhal prison, he said that 17 inmates had now fled from the Theni jail. He also questioned how such an incident could occur despite modern security arrangements and technology. Earlier, Stalin had criticised the TVK after a party functionary from Nagapattinam was arrested in a case involving the alleged smuggling of 135 kg of drugs worth around ₹100 crore. Referring to the web series Breaking Bad, he had described the party as a “Breaking Bad Party”. He has now used the title Prison Break to renew his criticism of the government.
