The Intermediate Board will introduce an internal assessment system for all subjects in the first year of Intermediate from the upcoming academic year. The board had earlier announced the decision and has now released the guidelines for conducting internal examinations. Last year, the 20 percent internal marks system was introduced for English in Intermediate first year for the first time. This year, the system will be extended to all subjects.
Intermediate Board Secretary Abhilasha said the new system aims to assess students’ performance through practical examinations and internal assessment in addition to written examinations. However, students who have Kannada, Tamil or Marathi as their second language will continue under the existing assessment system, officials said. At present, practical examinations are conducted for science groups in the second year of Intermediate.
