Heavy Rain Fury Impacts Two States

Heavy rains have created a flood-like situation in Kerala, with landslides claiming the lives of six people, including a four-year-old boy, in separate incidents on Saturday. Two people died in Idukki district, while a mother and her son lost their lives in Kottayam. Several low-lying areas were inundated as rivers overflowed, forcing authorities to open dam gates in six districts. Floodwaters reached National Highway 183, while rescue operations are underway in affected areas, including regions along the Pamba River. The weather department has issued red alerts for several areas, and schools have been declared closed.

Meanwhile, a cloudburst hit Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir early Saturday morning, triggering flash floods and landslides. Traffic movement was disrupted in several areas, while overflowing rivers in Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban districts swept away vehicles. Schools in these three districts have been closed as authorities continue relief and rescue operations to tackle the situation.
