Centre Announces Good News for AP Tobacco Farmers

The Centre has announced a major relief measure for Flue-Cured Virginia (FCV) tobacco growers in Andhra Pradesh. The Government of India has approved an interest-free loan of ₹50,000 per barn, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The measure is aimed at providing immediate financial support to farmers and meeting their working-capital requirements amid changing market conditions.

The move is expected to provide relief to tobacco growers facing financial difficulties and the impact of natural calamities. It could also reduce their dependence on private moneylenders for working capital. The Centre, Andhra Pradesh government and Tobacco Board have been discussing various measures to safeguard the interests of FCV tobacco growers and strengthen the sector.
