A major fifth-generation stealth fighter aircraft manufacturing project is set to come up near Puttaparthi in Sri Sathya Sai district, Andhra Pradesh. The project, along with its allied industries, is expected to attract investments worth around ₹1 lakh crore. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is likely to lay the foundation stone on the 15th of this month.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) will establish the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) program, with around 140 indigenous fighter jets planned to be produced. The Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), based in Bengaluru, will handle system design, testing, and module assembly, which will then be transported to Puttaparthi for final assembly and ground testing. The state government has allotted 600 acres for the main facility and another 400 acres for allied units. Tata Advanced Systems, L&T, and Bharat Forge are expected to be involved in the project.
