OpenAI has announced its plans to acquire the artificial intelligence security platform Promptfoo. The San Francisco-based company said the deal is currently in the final stages and will be completed after meeting standard closing conditions. Once finalized, Promptfoo’s technology will be integrated into OpenAI Frontier, an enterprise platform designed to build, deploy, and manage large numbers of AI agents.
Promptfoo, founded in 2024 by Ian Webster and Michael D’Angelo, is known for its open-source framework used to test and evaluate large language model applications. With this acquisition, OpenAI aims to strengthen security testing, risk detection, and monitoring of AI systems. The integration is expected to help enterprises identify risks such as data leaks, misuse of tools, and security vulnerabilities while maintaining detailed records and compliance standards for AI systems.
