A stampede-like situation unfolded outside the JSCA International Cricket Stadium in Ranchi during the Jharkhand T20 League 2026 final on Tuesday, leaving several cricket fans injured. The incident occurred when a large number of spectators gathered to watch the summit clash between Jamshedpur Steelers and Chota Nagpur Royals. Thousands of fans arrived at the venue well before the start of the match, but only the west gate was opened for public entry, resulting in severe congestion.
The situation worsened as security checks moved slowly, leading to frustration among fans waiting outside the stadium. Eyewitnesses said spectators began pushing and rushing towards the entrance, triggering a stampede-like situation. Some fans reportedly fell and suffered injuries, while barricades and gates near the entry point were damaged due to the crowd pressure. Police and security personnel quickly intervened, deployed additional forces, and restored order by regulating the entry process. Ranchi SSP Rakesh Ranjan stated that the situation was brought under control immediately and that the injured were receiving treatment. Organizers confirmed that no one sustained critical injuries and the final match proceeded as scheduled. The incident has once again raised concerns over crowd management and safety arrangements at major sporting events.
