India created history at the 2026 World Rowing Cup III by winning its first-ever gold medal in the prestigious event. The Indian duo of Ujjwal Kumar and Lakshay, representing the lightweight men's double sculls category, delivered a remarkable performance to finish the race in 6:26.09 minutes. Hong Kong secured the silver medal with a timing of 6:27.14, while the Netherlands claimed bronze in 6:27.36.
Both Ujjwal Kumar and Lakshay serve in the Indian Army, highlighting the armed forces' growing contribution to Indian rowing. Notably, 17 of the 18-member Indian squad in Lucerne were Army personnel, while the remaining athlete belonged to the Indian Navy. The military's sustained investment in training, infrastructure, and athlete development over the years has played a significant role in India's historic success on the global stage.
