Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has begun his tenure with a series of major decisions after taking oath on Sunday. As part of his first official actions, Vijay signed files implementing three key manifesto promises, including 200 units of free electricity for domestic consumers. He also approved measures related to women’s safety and the eradication of drug abuse across the state. Vijay stated that the special women’s safety team would function directly under his supervision.
Soon after taking oath as an MLA in the Assembly, Vijay scheduled a series of political meetings that surprised many in Tamil Nadu’s political circles. He is expected to visit former Chief Minister M. K. Stalin and later meet MDMK leader Vaiko at their residences. TVK leaders clarified that these are courtesy meetings. Meanwhile, suspense continues over whether Vijay will meet AIADMK leaders, including party general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami. The newly elected 234 MLAs also took oath in the Assembly, while DMK announced Udhayanidhi Stalin as the Leader of Opposition. The TVK-led coalition government is set to face a trust vote on May 13.
