

Sankranti festivities arrived early in the Konaseema region as the Godavari riverbanks came alive with celebrations. The Andhra Pradesh government’s prestigious three-day Sir Arthur Cotton Godavari Trophy Sankranti Festival began on Sunday at Atreyapuram in Dr B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district. The event was inaugurated by District Collector Mahesh Kumar and SP Rahul Meena under the leadership of Kothapeta MLA Bandaru Satyananda Rao. Large crowds from various regions participated, creating a festive atmosphere.
The celebrations featured vibrant rangoli designs stretching nearly a kilometre, with around 350 women participating from Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and the twin Godavari districts. Swimming competitions held near the Atreyapuram bridge saw the participation of 234 contestants across different age groups. A food festival at Lolla Laku showcased traditional delicacies such as pootharekulu, bobbatlu, millet-based dishes, handloom products, and handicrafts. Dragon boat, kayaking, and canoeing competitions will begin on Monday and continue for two days, with around 250 participants expected from various states.
