

Google CEO Sundar Pichai said India possesses the capability to create a world-class artificial intelligence giant, noting that the country’s innovation ecosystem is rapidly transforming to support the rise of extraordinary technology companies. Speaking at the India AI Impact Summit, he highlighted that successful startups such as Flipkart and OYO demonstrate how India is already moving in the right direction. Pichai emphasised that cities like Bengaluru have evolved into thriving innovation hubs, with companies developing locally built AI models and laying strong foundations for advanced technological breakthroughs. He also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss deeper collaboration between Google and India’s skilled workforce and student community.
Meanwhile, global technology companies announced significant investments to accelerate AI adoption across emerging economies. Microsoft revealed plans to invest $50 billion by the end of the decade to bridge the global AI divide, including large-scale investments in infrastructure, skills development, multilingual AI, and innovation ecosystems, while aiming to train 20 million people in AI skills in India by 2030. Qualcomm announced a $150 million investment to support Indian startups in automotive, robotics, IoT, and mobile sectors, while NVIDIA identified India as a key global AI innovation hub driven by strong developer and startup ecosystems. Industry reports also predict that advancements in agentic AI and machine voice technologies will define the next phase of AI evolution, positioning India as a major contributor to the global technology economy.
