Vehicular movement on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway gradually resumed after a massive traffic jam that lasted nearly 40 hours following an overturned gas tanker accident. The incident led to long queues of stranded vehicles, leaving commuters, including women and children, stuck on the highway for several hours under difficult conditions. Authorities reported that the congestion spread across multiple stretches, severely disrupting travel between the two major cities.
Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force and the State Disaster Response Force worked continuously for several hours to safely remove the tanker from the accident site. Officials also took precautionary measures as hazardous gas leakage was reported from the tanker, preventing any major untoward incident. After the clearance operations were completed, traffic was slowly restored along the expressway.
