At the GlobeTrotter event in Hyderabad, S.S. Rajamouli revealed the title of his upcoming film as “Varanasi.” The title glimpses released at the event introduce Mahesh Babu’s character in intriguing ways at times presented as a fierce Rudra, at other moments appearing in the guise of Lord Rama.
Rajamouli said on stage that for a special episode in the film he had Mahesh wear a Rama look. He added that the actor carried that look remarkably well during the photoshoot. Based on the footage, fans can expect to see Mahesh portray both the compassionate, princely side of Rama and the powerful, Rudra-like shades in the same film.
The first glimpses reveal Mahesh as a warrior brandishing a trident and charging forward with blood marks on his face a sequence that hints at intense, larger-than-life visuals. Modern-day sequences showing him confronting Nandi-shwara motifs have already sparked conversation online. Rajamouli also revealed that they shot that special episode over about 60 days, treating each sub-episode like a short film and planning everything anew to meet the creative challenges.
Rajamouli’s way of unveiling Mahesh in multiple avatars has stirred great excitement. He described the character as capable of being majestic, valiant, compassionate, and also angry — a range of emotions that should give the audience plenty to talk about.
