Many people keep their mobile phones under their pillows while sleeping, either to keep the device within reach or to hear the alarm clearly. However, experts advise against this habit. Keeping a phone close to the head for long periods may increase exposure to radiofrequency energy, while excessive phone use at night can also affect sleep. More importantly, placing a phone under a pillow can trap heat and reduce ventilation.
The risk can be higher when the phone is charging. Poor ventilation may cause the device to overheat and can damage the battery, while charging a phone under bedding can create a fire hazard. Instead of keeping the phone under the pillow, it is safer to place it on a table or another hard, open surface a little away from the bed while sleeping.
