Women Wrestlers Approach Delhi High Court

Four women wrestlers have challenged the acquittal of former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in a Delhi court. The appeal challenges the August 3 magistrate court verdict. Special Judge Dig Vinay Singh of the Rouse Avenue Court issued notices to Brij Bhushan, former WFI assistant secretary Vinod Tomar and the Delhi Police.

In their appeal, the wrestlers argued that the acquittal order was legally unsustainable and was based on what they described as an erroneous and selective assessment of the evidence. They also contended that the judgment relied on stereotypical assumptions about the behaviour of victims of sexual harassment. The matter has been listed for further hearing on October 9.
