Telangana Seeks 8-Lane National Highways

Telangana Seeks 8-Lane National Highways

The Telangana government is planning to urge the Centre to expand the Hyderabad–Vijayawada (NH-65) and Hyderabad–Bengaluru (NH-44) national highways to eight lanes instead of the proposed six lanes. State Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy is expected to meet Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in Delhi during the third week of the month. He will present a detailed report highlighting the current traffic levels and projected increase in vehicular movement to explain the need for wider roads.

During the meeting, Komatireddy is also expected to seek early approval for the proposed double-decker corridor between LB Nagar and Hayathnagar, a new greenfield expressway connecting Hyderabad towards Nagpur, and faster execution of the Srisailam Elevated Corridor project, which was recently transferred to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The state government believes that developing the highways as high speed eight lane corridors will help meet future traffic demands and reduce travel time.
